The Story of Casa Rio de Luna
Casa Rio de Luna is a welcoming haven for guests from around the globe, drawn to the enchanting beauty of Nicaragua's emerald Pacific Coast. On the search for the most magical sunsets, its owner, Sergey Zhitar, discovered the charming fisherman town of San Juan del Sur in 2005. There, he found Playa Yankee—a place that immediately captured his heart. With a vibrant expat community and welcoming locals, he came back again and again. He knew he had found his new home.
Nicaragua, with its kind people, stunning landscapes, and delightful climate, offers everything a wanderlust soul could dream of. This led him in 2022 to acquire Casa Rio de Luna, a beautiful property on the cliffs featuring breathtaking sunsets and moonsets alike. The joy this place gave him was something Sergio was eager to share, making it available for others to experience, particularly for unique and special events.
Meet Don Sergio
I am Sergey (but you can call me Sergio), a physician by education and an entrepreneur by trade, with a continued passion for both disciplines. Originally from the Republic of Moldova, I trained in Anesthesia-Critical Care and worked in the field for five years before my family and I relocated to the USA in 1994. In the USA, I practiced as an Internal Medicine physician while raising my family. In 2013, I founded the Right Path Centers, which grew to become the largest substance use disorder treatment practice on the East Coast before its acquisition in 2022. I continue to work in the field part-time.
In 2022, I ventured into the hospitality industry, now managing several vacation homes in the OBX and Blue Ridge Mountains. As an avid outdoorsman, I enjoy traveling, riding motorcycles, kiteboarding, and spending time with my family, exploring the natural beauty and the freedoms these activities offer.
Meet Graciela
Proud Nicaraguan, born in Nandaime and raised in California during my teenage years. I’m a mother of four amazing children and happily married to my great husband, Byron. For the past decade, I have been the General Manager of a Homeowners Association in Tola, where I have lived for over 20 years, contributing to community development through various local projects. As a board member of Williamsport Little League Baseball Nicaragua and Horse Parades Nicaragua, I have helped promote youth sports and cultural traditions, successfully fundraising for both. My dedication extends to healthcare, playing a key role in the development of the Rancho Santana Clinic - Roberto Clemente. A passionate horse enthusiast and devoted Yankees fan, I love giving back to my community and supporting the people of Nicaragua.
